the most popular grip on the tour is a overlap grip, often referred to as the "Vardon" grip, named after the great golfer Harry Vardon.
Players with smaller hands tend to use the "interlock" grip. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are to notables who use this grip.
Players who have trouble releasing their hands at impact could use a 10 finger grip, otherwise known as the "baseball" grip. No interlock or overlap, all fingers on the club. This promotes a lot of wrist action.

I do tend to see a lot of overlapping grips on the tour, maybe because their hands are bigger - an interlocking grip may not be the most comfortable grip unless you've used it for a long time and it just feels right - if you watch any tour event, you will see a lot of pinkies overlapped on the golf glove

The grip (as in way of holding the club) that is most popular among professional golfers is the Vardon or overlap grip. Named after the great Harry Vardon, who popularized it. In the Vardon grip, place your little finger on the trailing hand (the one placed lower on the club - right hand for a right-handed player) and place it between the index and middle finger on the lead hand (the hand that is higher on the club).
Second in popularity would be the interlock, used by Tiger Woods. The least popular is the baseball or ten finger grip, as it does not allow the hands to work together.
I do my bottom hand just over my thumb, which is strait down the top of the grip, then my bottom hand i do the same (thumb strait down, pointed at the head.)
