Fairway Wood and Hybrid?

Question

I have Taylor Made Burner FW 3 and 5 and Hybrid 5 on my golf bag right now. I'm planning to ge another hybrid and FW 7 and trying to get rid of my 4, 5 and 6 irons. Do you think its a good idea to get additional FW and Hybrid?

I carry a driver, 3 and 5 wood, 4 and 6 hybrid, 9i, and three wedges plus putter... Unless you are playing pro level where you *need* to have every shot in the book, you are carrying too many clubs. Carry only what you actually need during a round. I'd drop the 4, 5, and 6 iron and not pick up the other clubs you mentioned. I'd drop the 8 iron too.



If you have to think for longer than two seconds about which club to use for any shot, you have too many clubs.

The clubs you are talking about are generally used by seniors to increase their length and long hitters who can reach most par fives in two.



I have Cobra bafflers in equivalent of 3,4,5,6 irons. I get the same distance with both the 5&6 irons or hybrids but the 4 hybrid is about 10 yards longer than my 4 iron and the 3 hybrid is 15 yards longer then my 3 iron.



I would suggest a 3 and 4 hybrid at first (or even just one hybrid and drop the 3&4 iron). Decide if you like them, then get a 5 if you feel you need it. I personally don't feel I need the 6 hybrid; I use it since I spent the money on it but can do the same things with my 6 iron. I use the hybrids to reach par fives in two and 200 yard par threes. If I was playing from the whites and not going for the par 5's in two I would almost never hit anything higher than a 7 iron (other than driver).



One poster suggested practicing more with your long irons; however, that is silly since you won't be hitting those clubs often, or at all, during most rounds. You'd be much better off with the hybrids and spend your practice time on your short game and driver.

I'm trying to think whether I can disagree with a persons opinion more than this guy above me and have decided that I can't. Why can't you replace your 5/6 iron??



Is this guy on some macho thing where he refuses to embrace technology and is never gonna touch a hybrid??



Why bother trying to "learn" to hit a 5/6 iron better? Just get a hybrid and hit it better straight away!!



I have a Driver, 1 x Fairway Wood, 3 x Hybrids and also 4 x wedges. After all 60% of your shots are from 60 feet and in. I would rather improve and have the versitality of different close shots than being able to brag about hitting a five iron correctly.

You can all keep your 5/6 irons, i'll smack my hybrid (From any lie!!) to within 60 yards (If not on the green!) then get up and down with my short game which has saved me more shots than a well hit 5/6 iron ever will.

You should take away your 4 iron, but I would leave the other two irons...



Youjust need more practice with the irons, because hitting those higher with more lft will provide you will a softer landing than crushing a 5 or 7 wood and rolling your ball right through the green (providing your actually hitting them straight)



The only hyrbids I have is a 18* hybrid and a driving iron, both of which to get me out of the rough :(



Not to bring up the fact people will laugh their butts off when you have so many woods you might as well be playing from the ladies tees...

I don't think thats a good idea. Personally, I have driver, 3w (which is also a burner) and 2, 3 and 4 hybrids. I then have 5-9, PW and SW.



I would not get rid of my 5 or 6, as I think at certain times (higher or thicker rough) they are easier to hit than the hybrids.

Dont get rid of your 5 and 6 irons... learn to hit em'... they are more versatile than a hybrid for that loft could ever be.



People now a days are becoming to dependent on Hybrids; replace your 3 iron, MAYBE 4 iron, fine... My opinion is golfers are getting lazy... It takes time and countless hours of practice to master your long irons... in the end youre all the better golfer for putting the effort into a long iron.

Which club are you more comfortable with, hybrid or wood? A 17-degree hybrid and 19-degree fairway wood. I surmice the distance would be the same for either club.

It takes about the same effort to learn to hit a hybrid as it does an iron so you are letting the manufacturers bamboozle you. You need to learn to make a repeating consistent and fundamentally sound golf swing, then you will be able to hit any club in your hands.

Adam's golf clubs makes a whole bag of hybrids so you never have to hit an iron. I like irons because it gives you more control but to each his own.

the 7 wood might be a bit much but before that, think about a wedge unless you hit all your greens or have one that you play all the shots with. then i say if it works then get it. the hybrid(best thing ever) this is a good idea a buddy of mine just bought new ones and now his set starts with a 7 iron and he has already improved his g.i.r so yeah this would proabally be a good idea for you i say do it.

Do what you want......there is no guarantee that you will be able to hit any club if your swing is deficient which is what it is when folks say they can't hit a 3 iron. Poor swing mechanics is the problem 98 percent of recreational golfers. They will not spend the money to fix their swing flaws so they just keep throwing money at the MFG's in the frail hope that a device will cure all of their ills.

you should get they hybrid for sure, but the FW is a little iffy.

You have to be careful of the loft of the clubs. You don't want to get clubs with similar loft if you haven't all ready.
