I enjoy golfing very much but I'm a beginner, so this will be the first time for me to go out with my company golfing in a 9 hole gofe course. Do I need to remember some rules before I go? Thanks for your advice.

By the way, what does "best ball" mean?

I think another thing that hasn’t been mentioned is to pace of play. If you have 6 strokes on hole before reaching the green, then you should probably pick up the ball and just put it on the green. The rules can be very strict and uptight. This is so that tournaments are played fair, not to ruin the fun for beginners.

There are more “rules” on the greens and that’s where people get picky. When you’re on the green, let the furthest person away putt first. Fix your ball marks on the green and mark your ball with a coin if you’re in someone’s way. You also take out the pin if you’re closest to it and everyone’s ball is on the green. DON”T take out the pin if someone is off the green.

I let my wife tee up the ball anywhere on the golf course, besides the greens of course. It fluffs up the ball for her and she doesn’t have to worry about weird lies or the rough.

Business golf is all about having fun and showing that you have a good attitude. You won’t look bad asking about the rules. If you keep up with everyone, then everyone will have a good time.

Etiquette is important if you don't want to annoy the other people in your group.

1. Wait your turn.

2. Be ready when it's your turn.

3. Stop moving and talking when it's other people's turn.

4. Watch your ball so you're not having to look for it after every shot.

5. Don't get overly pissed off, cuss all the time and / or throw clubs. People that do that are babies and shouldn't play the game at all. Ugly.

6. Mark your ball on the green if it's in the way.

7. Pull or tend the flag when on the green and you're closest to it.

8. Fix your ball marks, replace divots and rake bunkers.

9. Have fun.

Best ball is often confused with a scramble. Both are golf scoring formats: Best ball is a stroke play, team scoring format for 2 or more people playing on the same team. All people play the hole normally and the best score on the hole by any team member is your score.

A scramble is also a stroke play, team scoring format for 2 or more people playing on the same team. Each player hits a shot and then the team decides which shot is the best one to be taken. Each player on the team hits a second shot from the previous best shot and the team chooses which shot is best again. Process continues until the ball is in the hole. Each team member gets to play the hole from each best shot position.

Just find out golf etiquette, try to search on the internet for some tips, but other than that, a company golf tournament is for fun, ask people you are playing with. Tell them you haven't golfed before and could use any free tips.

Best Ball is when you play with a partner, threesome, foursome, etc... and after everyone hits, you pick the best shot ( Farthest usually. ) and everyone hits from the same position.

let the people know it is your first time they will gladly help you out

remember golf is a back on forth game not up and down

put most your weight on your front foot and keep it there thru the swing, swing straight back and straight thru to the target

this is not the perfect swing but works best for first timers

try to get to a range and hit some golf balls there before you go

Wow!

Everyone's definition of "best ball" is incorrect. A scramble is where you select the best shot and all your partner's balls to that spot and play from there. Repeat until you get it in the hole.

A "best ball" tournament is where you and your partners all play your individual ball for an individual score. Then you would use the "best ball" or best score for the hole. Usually you use a handicap in this format. I play in one tournament where they use the best ball gross (raw score) and best ball net (with handicap) and they cannot be the same ball.

Have fun.

Know the rules.

Know golf course ettiquitte.

Best ball or scramble is everyone in your foursome moves their ball to where the best ball(usually longest) ball was hit. And everyone hits from there.

You must know the proper swing. Try 'the five elements of the swing by Ben Hogen. The best and cheapest. Best ball means everyone in the foursum hits and everyone than hits from what everyone thinks is the best hit ball.

Everything A Rekkin said was spot on. I didn't realize so many people didn't know what best ball was.
