Question:
How do you get rid of the smell?

Stinks, they do. Can someone help with cleaning golf shoes?
My 15 year old has some all leather Foot Joy golf shoes that he has worn for about a year. He is starting to grow out of them, but has a few good months before that day comes. Does anyone know of a good way to clean them? Can I throw them in the wash, since they are going to be gone in a few months anyway (too used to donate, I promise, although I'll try)? He's growing like a weed but can get a good few rounds in before he needs the next pair. The smell is just killing us... any suggestions? The shoe spray is beyond our help at this point. Yes, I know, new shoes. But he golfs every other day and every weekend, rain or shine. We were planning on buying him new ones for a gift when/if he makes the high school team, so trying to wait (we will buy him new ones when he can no longer use these, but thought it would be a nice thing as a gift if he does). You probably didn't need the story behind why I need these clean shoes. Sorry.

Tell him to wear socks with his shoes. That won't help your current issue but it will prevent a recurrence.

The best option is to take the laces out, open them up as much as possible and set them outside in directly sunlight for about 3-4 hours, making sure that the sunlight is able to get inside the shoes as much as possible. This will dry them thoroughly which will kill lots of the bacteria. After that, have your son use a quality foot powder (like Golf Bond) on his feet while playing golf and have him remove and air out his shoes after each round.

once sweat enters leather or if leather gets wet you have a little problem.

If you wash and dry leather you will see the shoes shrink about 3 sizes and you will be buying shoes this week.

they make leather cleaner and conditioner that would be my first choice.

second would be baking soda and charcoal chips.

third would be uses mother nature and leave them suckers outside and let them air out.

I have sent mine off to a leather cleaning business but they charged me the price of a new pair of shoes, not doing that again!

best bet for the future is this have your son apply powder to his feet several times a day during all day golf outting and change his socks at least once. my son is the same way so i feel for ya!

Leather should not be put in the wash...try putting baking soda in the shoes (like fill the shoes, a box per shoe) let them sit as long as you can then dump the baking soda, and if that's not enough try Fabreze, but I don't think Fabreze will work..and then maybe add a pair of odor eaters.

Get a spray bottle add 1 Cup vinegar 1 cup water and a quarter cup of rubbing alcohol. Clean the shoes thoroughly with soap and water then spray the insides with the mixture and keep spraying once a day and then let dry every day

Several good answers here. I would use the baking Soda. to remove as much of the old smell. And I have always preferred Gold Bond Foot Powder. It actually keeps your feet feeling fresh.

I usually spray mine with shore spray after every use.
