What is the best way to hit a wedge or short iron out of a soggy wet lie?

Should you hit down on it as normal which makes it hard to compress the ball with a wet lie or should you try to pick it clean off the lie?

I believe you should try to pick it clean almost as if it were a fairway bunker shot.

Pretty much the same as a good lie. Important thing is to hit the ball first, then take your divot. If it is real wet you may get a flyer so maybe one less club (if there are like droplets of water beading up on the ball). Trying to pick the ball clean is tough and will just lead to lots of bladed line drives over the green.

Really and truly you shouldn't do anything different than you normally do.

Your objective on every shot from the fairway should be to 'pick it clean' as you say. If you are intentionally hitting shots fat then you have more problems than soggy fairways.

My answer to your question would be....do nothing different from what you normally do, you may get a flyer if there's enough water between the ball and clubface, or you may get some other funky result if there's mud on one side of the ball.

If you know how, you can try to combat the flyer by playing a 'dead hands' shot, almost as if you were trying to play a shot from a dry fairway with little to no spin.

Good Luck!

Move the ball back in your stance. This will result in taking some loft off the club so take one "less" club. Also the water between the ball and face will lower the spin rate so you will get more roll. Moving the ball back in your stance will help you get a cleaner and more downward strike on the ball.

But don't forget to check the rules for casual water and you may not have to play it from the soggy lie at all.

Hope this helps.

Rules state you can only pick up the ball if it is plugged or very dirty. I would open up the face, and play it like a long bunker shot. You will want to still compress the ball but with a cleaner pickyou are right. Just a little less steep on the downswing,. Good luck

I live in oregon so i get this all the time. I would use a lower trajectory type of shot and make sure u put ur weight on ur front foot. This will help in not chunking the ball or hitting it fat.

Choke down on the club and swing down on it as normal. Make sure you complete the follow through.
