I have been playing the Mizuno MP 33 irons for 7 years, and I love them. I think that Titleist makes great irons for all type of players. I found that the Titleist irons are just a little hard and hard to work the ball.
Callaway has always made good irons for the weekend golfer. They are expensive, but they are worth the money if you are a 20+ handicap. I am only playing about 2-4 times a month and I am thinking about changing to the x-forged or the x20 tour irons because they go about a club longer, and very easy to hit. The Fusion irons go about 2 clubs longer, but they are too big for my liking. (MP33 5-iron I play at 200-205, X-tour 5-iron goes about 220-225, and the Fusion 5-iron was about 235-245)
Personally I think that Taylor Made irons feel a little “hollow”, but I think that Taylor Made is best at making drivers and woods. They have never been a strong iron builder until the last few years. The new RACs are not bad, but I think there are better clubs out there for the price.
Ping also makes a solid set of clubs. The only problem that I have seen with ping irons is that you need to change the shafts as soon as you buy the clubs. I know a few people that broke a lot of the standard shafts, in the grip. (so add another $200-$500 to the price to change the shafts)
If you are a high handicap, the cobra club are very easy to hit, and very inexpensive. I just like blades, and these clubs are BIG.
RX5 / RX7
I only know them in the drivers and 3 woods, never hit the irons. I played the rx7 driver for 2 years. I got rid of the driver because it went “to straight”…..sounds funny, but I could not work the ball at all with it….It was extremely hard to hit a draw or a fade, and I like playing a 5 yard draw with the driver because it is easier to control for my swing……if the irons are like the driver, they should be a easy club to hit. I went to the Titleist 905 driver with the speeder X shaft. I like the combo.
