I started with a Spalding set, I preferred my friends Golden Bear set better though. When I chose a set, You should hit some balls with both, I like to hit the three iron. The three iron being the hardest club to hit in the set, which ever set feels better when hitting the 3 iron is the one I would pick.

It is a matter of personal preference, and upgrading the brand of clubhead makes no difference. The shaft is the engine that drives the club. If sweet spot size, lofts, etc. are similar, clubheads fitted with the same shafts will perform similarly. Look for good quality shafts and clubs that look good to you when you are standing over the golf ball. If you like the appearance you will have more confidence in your shots.

Top Flite was purchased by Callaway; I can tell you that the quality of their golf balls has improved dramatically from even 5 years ago. I don't know much about their current golf clubs since I established a 6 hcp using the Top Flite Tour Pro Grinds irons with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts in 1999-2002. Coincidentally, I was using Nicklaus Golden Bear fairway woods and driver at the time.

Currently I'm using generic golf club heads fitted with TT Dynamic Gold Superlite shafts, but many times I wish I still had those Top Flites. I loved the way they looked at address.

How about the Nicklaus GB Power Draw set for $169 the Top Flite set is a good bargain for $199, comes with a stand bag. The Prosimmon X30 Hybrid Full Golf Club Package is nice for $129 and the Wilson Mens Ultra Hybrid Woods/Irons Set is excellent for $179. I have an older model of Golden Bear clubs and I am fine with them.

The ones that you hit the longest and straightest are the "best" for you. Try them and pick the one that works best. Spaulding makes the Top Flite brand and they have been making golf clubs a lot longer than "Golden Bear" so I would tend to think they might hold up better.

Totally a matter of personal preference. I've never heard anybody rave about how good either brand might be. Top-Flight though has been taken over by Calloway and may put some of their technology into the Top Flight line. They've certainly improved Top-Flight balls so maybe improved clubs will follow.

If you're a beginning golfer then either brand is sufficient. Neither will out perform the other but in about 2 years you will want to upgrade if you're concerned about getting better.

those are really beginner clubs and both are pretty sub-par performance sets. if you are just starting out then it doesnt matter but if you are a good golfer trying to better your game you dont want either of those

That is mostly a personal preference thing. Personally, I don't like either brand.
